she was afraid of theo beckett, not only for the rank that he possessed and his intimidating demeanor, but also the stories of his feats, of raids and invasions. fear was an emotion channeled by cassidy more and more these days despite rocket's rather generous attempts to integrate her into the organization.

"it is my best trait insofar, sir." she says politely. she accepts the cigarette in his hands quietly, taking it with a light touch. "thank you." she says. she was no regular smoker by any means; it is a drug that wrecks the body. but she did not reject gifts when offered, especially by an underboss.

"at night. it may not be so easy to see, but that is the same for the target. and after the job is done, it is much easier to escape into the darkness." she says. she takes a drag after, letting the acrid smoke settle into her lungs.

"what say you, sir?"

the cigarette offered is not meant as a gift. it isn't meant as anything more than a gesture, and even then, considering it one would be a stretch.

"many operate the same way you do, favoring the darkness the night brings. as for me, i've spent too long in the shadows to care for them."

he exhales smoke.

"now, i much prefer the mornings."

his words implied many things; in cassidy's view, it meant that theo beckett was confident and powerful enough to not need the cover of darkness. at dawn, you had the leisure of day at your fingertips, and you were free to determine its history.

cassidy shifts, slightly uncomfortable at the thought of being perceived. she was eager to please, and she is more than willing to obfuscate, but she could never lie.

"i do like waking up early, as i am more productive then...but i do not like to be seen."

the smell of smoke is acrid and will always be, a lingering smell that sticks to her person. she hopes the scent doesn't give her away. but she muses, rolling the cigarette in her hand.

"perhaps if i become as strong as you, i won't be so afraid of the light."
